So i just got into an accident, like 3 hours ago. totally lame. i think the scooter may be recoverable, that is if the engine is ok, and the fork isn't f'ed. i don't know we will see... sigh... but my scooter is in limbo for now.

I made this subject to maybe enlighten some people to accidents so they know what to expect or what ever.

Good thing is it wasn't my fault. Don't mind the dirty mirror.

That last pic is the major road rash, i got it on both of my elbows too, but man does that back rash hurt. also, if i wasn't wearing my helmet, i would have been super screwed up! my head was the second thing that hit the ground after my ass. holy crap did my ass hurt after the crash. it doesn't now but, yeeouch.

Also watch out for freaking people turning left from the right side!!!! i got clipped by someone doing that.[/img]

Hey xcruckx,
Glad to see you're under your own motive steam and able to post. Could take a day for the pain and stiffness to kick in. Record everything, and make sure you're OK. The scoot should be checked by a shop, too (could be bent body/frame).
Count your blessings and good luck!
Kurt

weeeeelll... i just got a call from the insurance people and they told me the bike is a loss... excuses being that the parts are too hard to find.. so i don't really know what that means, since i could probably find the parts pretty quick.

im up in the air on whether to take the scooter from them so i can sell parts (i have zero place to keep it, except the sidewalk). i got a good amount from the settlement but I don't think it's enough to buy a new scooter... maybe it's enough to repair it, but i'm not sure if this would make it impossible to ride (titling and insuring).

gah help.

Well, give us some details about the bike. Condition before and after, and what amount is the settlement. That sorta stuff, you never know ......

well i did some foot work today and i may have a deal with a local shop to see if they can repair it or buy the bike from me so they can part it out.

BEFORE: good running, little rusty on the leg shield edges and overall a little rough all around, needed new brakes and tires, throttle probably needed adjusting, speedo worked, fuel gauge worked, lights worked, pretty much ran very well. There was an issue of it sort of hiccuping during humid nights but that was probably because the carb needed a little cleaning. ran at about 85mpg to 100mpg

Other than it needing some new brake pads and tires it was f'ing sweet.

The insurance company didn't say anything about the engine or the frame being damaged and i made sure to ask them. but this is what i know is damaged on the bike.

this is all (sitting on the bike) right side damage because it laid down on that side.

AFTER: Throttle is bent up, headset was pushed up because of the throttle bar hitting the street, right cowl damaged i think it's in one of the pictures above, engine cover cracked (but that doesn't look to badly damaged), front fender bent you can probably make that out a little bit. center stand bentish? (it seemed to be working fine in the photo of it on the truck bed...), fuel line severed (the one that comes from the top of the engine area down into what looks like the carb...

I haven't seen the damage report from the claims person so there is probably more damage, but i can't think of where else except the engine and the frame.

Ok so the deal i may have with the shop is this: they tow it to the shop and look at it for about $120 they'll assess whether it's salvageable or not and then if not buy it from me to sell as parts. soooo i don't know, it's looking pretty good right now since that's my only option. the settlement was more than what i paid for the bike about 500 more so it's nice to get some money back on my investment but i'd really just like to get riding again and also keep the parts within the scooter community instead of having them crushed into a cube.

My two cents? I wouldn't pay someone to assess whether or not they want to fix it / part it out. You've got a great community here of folks to buy up good parts... And there's Craigslist where everything under the sun is for sale/available... Just saying, I work for a construction co, we don't charge to "take a look at it" ... seems like a waste of dough.

I agree with KC, I think you will do better parting it out...........that's if you got the space to do it.

I'm sure I do NOT quite understand the whole deal here. xcruckx has a wreck and is OK, scoot is not. Covered under insurance and he gets $500 more than he paid. Got it.

Where is the scoot now and does xcruckx still own it? Or is it perhaps in hock at a tow company or already been hauled to shop for the insurance 'estimate'? $120 for the shop to estimate repair cost seems kinda steep. It could be fixable for much less than he gets from insurance, and just parts it's worth quite a bit.

ok ok ok, here's what's going on. The bike is still sitting in the yard that it was towed to after the wreck.

It's been sitting there the whole time. it has NEVER left the yard to go to any sort of shop to be assessed for damage, the person who was assessing damage just went there and did a look over. Im pretty sure he just researched replacement parts for what he saw as damaged and totaled it.

I just got off the phone with the insurance company and they are releasing the bike to me whenever the check from them reaches the towing company, then i can go and pick it up.

As far as the scooter shop is concerned, they are charging me 40 for the tow from the yard to their shop, and 70 for a complete test of everything plus research into getting parts for a fix and all that (he put it as an hour's charge for 3 or 5 hours work). I also trust this shop, i've dealt with them before, plus they use to be a Bajaj dealer.

now it'd be great to be able to get it towed from the tow yard to my front door, but i know thats going to be at least 100 bucks (no truck...) and my front yard is the sidewalk in yuppieville so that's a one way ticket to fine city. that was very noir...

I appreciate everyone's reply so far.
Sorry i haven't explained it as clearly as i've thought, you forget the little details when you live with something everyday. if you got anymore questions reply!

So if the insurance company totaled your scoot and paid you $500 more than you purchased it for how much did they total it for and how much are you buying the salvaged scoot back for from the insurance company for??

they are giving me a total of 1300 as settlement (don't know what they totaled it for, i assume 1300), which is 500 more then what i paid originally for the scooter. to get it back as salvage is like 100.

Then it makes good sense to buy it back, get it fixed or part it out........but if you fix and decide to sell it sometime afterwards it could be difficult and worth much less with a salvaged title.
