I was eastbound on a 40mph urban 6-lane road in north dallas, center lane, with flow of traffic at about 12:15. They turned left right in front of me. I had no time to react.

I'm home now from Parklan Hospital's trauma unit. 20+ stiches right leg. Left wrist broken, reduced (pulled back into approximately normal alignment). Monday, I need to arrange surgery with plate and pins. A few other abrasions and a cut from my glasses (I think).

Scooter moved to storage lot by cops calling it in. I hear it's pretty messed up. I didn't see anything of my scooter, as I was being strapped to a back board for transport and had no desire to turn my head.

Helmet, armored jacket and armored gloves.....priceless. I could not believe how well those worked for me as I flew though the air at maybe 30mph. Much better than my old jean jacket would have. I owe some friends another huge thank you for that fact, as the jacket was a gift.

Classic accident with a pretty good outcome, considering.

Watch out for the unavoidable.

Please take care of yourself and have a healthy recovery.
Left turners. They're out there, they're everywhere.

Glad to hear your OK Brian, at least you're around to bang a keyboard.

I've driven thru Big D many times and do not envy those who daily endure those intense traffic situations. Lets all hope that "pretty messed up" means ugly on the outside. Keep us posted on your condition and the scoot's.

Paz

Oh man Brian that is such a bummer. That's a no joke accident and you are very fortunate!

The classic left turn. No avoiding it... it's like the Sword of Damocles for 2 wheelers.

Here's to a swift recovery. Hopefully you'll get a new scoot out of the whole mess.

I think we all can agree I could have come out worse. My wrist is fairly serious...it will need a plate and through-the-skin pins come next week. I don't know how i was spared any serious knee banging.

Yes, it is undoubtedly totaled with the frame an front end damage.

I know this is probably not the best thing to be thinking, but was the other driver decided to be at fault, and if so, are they taking care of your scoot and medical bills?

(I hope you know I wouldn't ask, unless I saw you were up and walking around).

People really need to start learning to drive amongst 2 wheelers.

The day before a 3 day weekend was a bad day to wreck, from that perspective. Earliest I'll be able to know anything other a white car turning and a loud crash is probably Sunday, when the investigating officer is back on. I was taken away quickly in case of spine problems or internal bleeding and had no chance to give a statement or exchange insurance info and was at the hospital into the evening.

$163.30 to get it out of the impound lot. Custoer service wasn't their strong point, either...

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Yeah, good luck to you and glad you're OK. That looks like it was one hell of a crash.

Wow... glad to see a foto of you standing... BTW: Cool shirt...

I found some flat 3"+ LED fog/driving lights last night...
I'm thinking of putting a half dozen on my scoot... hooked up to flashers
Or maybe I will hire a little person to sit on my front rack and wave flags...

support that. certainly it can always be worse..
I hope that something good comes of this traumatic experience. Maybe we'll all ride a bit more defensively and your story will help someone you have never even met avoid an accident. who knows.

Brian:

I just now saw this because of your post on the yahoo group. Sorry about your accident. I'm glad it wasn't any worse.

My Legend is also gone after my accident 6/10/07. I was also moving about 35-40. I had a time of healing afterward, but was not hurt nearly as bad as you.

This is a late reply, but I sincerely hope all is well and that healing is going well.

John, thanks for the kind words and concern. Sorry to hear about the loss of your Legend. If things happen in three's, then you, Barry and me just covered the crash thing and everyone else here should be good for a while. Very Happy

I got a pleasant surprise at the doctor's office yesterday. He removed my cast and replaced it with a wrist brace. I can't lift anything over 5 pounds as the fracture isn't fully healed yet, but the pins are keeping everything in place. it's nice to be able to tie my shoes and apply deodorant. Ah, the little things.

I do want to get another scooter, but the odds are really high that I won't until after I graduate from the 'second career' nursing program that I'm now sitting out of. So that would be after Christmas of next year. Or as a Christmas present then. Yeah, that sounds good. Maybe there will be scooters in the shops again by that time. Shocked I'm kind of excited by the 125cc Yamaha Zuma that should be in the US in a few weeks.

Brian
