Bucking into first gear |
|
After my Chetak has been standing for about nine hours or more and I start it up, it bucks forward violently and cuts out when I shift into first gear. And it only happens after that first start up. After that first buck and cut out, I restart it in neutral and it shifts into first nice and smoothly. Everytime. Any suggestions?
By the way, it's not a function of it being cold because it can happen standing overnight or standing out in the sun all day. And it happens after I have let it idle for a while to warm up.

Norm, sounds like the 'dry clutch' syndrome and that is common to some extent with all motorcycles. After a few hours of sitting the wet clutch plates dry of oil and sort of suck themselves together which engages the motor with the tranny. Once broken free the clutch works smoothly again. It can be exaggerated if your clutch cable is too loose or maladjusted.
Check the cable for adjustment and lub'ing the cable and lever might help too. Before starting the scoot, pull the clutch lever a few times then let out the lever, then rock the scoot forward and back a little. That is generally enough to break it open.
Use the search feature and search for "clunk" and you'll get some good reads. Here's the first on the list:
