Dumb Question |
|
All right, let the ball busting begin! Can anyone tell me how to access the air filter for inspection/replacement? The Chetak and Legend manual I have is very vague. Engine side or battery side would be helpful.
Thanks,
Kurt (DUH)

Howdy...it's under the battery side cowling... you will see a verticle black piece of rubber... pull that off & pull it out...

Hey Cowboydoug, thanks for your reply. Is there a trick to pull it out? Is it a flat filter, but I can't seem to pull it out by the little black plastic tab; nothing moves. I'm going to apply more beers to the problem-that always results in something-

OK, I got it out by pulling with a pair of pliers and one beer. Was afraid of breaking the tab. It has some motor oil in it but no gas smell, I guess that's good. Is this a replacement item or to be cleaned periodically?
Thanks again for your advice, CD!

It is what a proper British manual would call a "compression fit" into that little slot. The plastic "nubbin" of a handle allows little "purchase" for human hands, making the extraction of the filter difficult upon first try
A beer and pliers is the proper American way to remove the damned "sticky wicket".
Just clean with a solvent to remove dirt and stuff. You can oil it a bit before replacing.

Thanks guys,
I guess beer and crude instruments sometimes trumps expertise and finesse-
