flip over (or fold over ) backrest for chetak |
|
I have a white 2000 chetak with 7k on it. Bought it new at Scooter therapy in Madison WI when they were selling for $1999. just a great bike for me but on long rides my back starts to really tire. Does anybody have any experience with putting a (p series) vespa type backrest on a chetak that folds forward so that it can be a backrest for the driver if he is not carrying a passenger? The only one i was able to find was from some UK site that didn't ship here. I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences with this. Thanks From Chuck ( Madison WI)

unfortunately... a back rest wont help. the seat on a scooter sits high compared to the handle bars... it was designed for a Italian woman, not an average size American male... notice how your elbows are barely over your legs when you ride? thats the problem... look for a "low profile" seat or learn to slide as far back on the seat as is "comfortable" to ride. then your leaning over not "scrunching" and that will help your back... it's bad on a Vespa but worse on the Bajaj... you actually sit almost two inches higher than a P series Vespa!
good luck.

I think you make a good point about the height of the seat. I tried my weightlifting belt the other day (for support) and that seemed to work pretty well. thanks chuck

I had a flip over back rest on my Bajaj (see profile pic). It didn't fit right though as it was made for a P range Vespa. It will fastening ok under the seat but not behind the number plate. In the end I took it off as it catches the wind too much when riding.
