Hi everybody! We just bought a sky blue 1980 Chetak in pretty great physical condition for $100. (It has been sitting in a barn since 1991, but you would never know it.)

Right now we're working on just getting it running: We replaced the battery and cleaned out the gas tank. The manual that came with it is too faded to figure out the gas/oil ratio, so we would love to hear from anybody with a ratio they think will work. We're planning to start with a 17:1.

Otherwise, just wanted to say hello and that we're looking forward to spending many hours looking through these forums instead of doing real work.

Take care,

Megan and Greg

Damn that is beautiful. I'd have paid a $100 just for the sculpture.

I'm compelled to explain that this board if primarily populated with 4T Bajaj owners as opposed to 2T scoots like yours, so there will be fewer responders to technical questions. We all love scoots though, and would like to encourage all things Bajaj, all around the world Smile

We do have several owners here with great familiarity with 2T's such as Crusader Tom & Matty_X, and most all our English, French, and Italian members have 2T's, so don't hesitate to find them in our memberlist and give them a PM. GEE and Marben come to mind most quickly.

We look forward to your progress and send more pics of your scooter adventures.

Hey, thanks so much for the warm welcome and awesome info, davidgwells and rufusswan!

We don't have her up and running yet, but we'll post some more pics when we get her going. We did a little research before we bought it, but apparently not enough to realize what an amazing deal we were getting...particularly sight unseen. Stuff like that doesn't happen to us, so we kind of feel like we won the lottery. Very Happy

Thanks again -- we really appreciate it!

You did win the lottery! How would you like to double your investment today?!

I kid. Look forward to seeing that thing come together.

That's the deal of the century. Nice score. Beautiful shape... you just don't find barn scooters like that anymore.

That scooter is very similar in some ways and identical in most ways to the Vespa Sprint. Do some research on the Sprint and you'll get lots of information that will generalize to your bike.

The gas/oil mix is 2% or 50:1 on your scooter.

Take care of it. It's a real gem and you'll love your 2 gallons of milk plus room for the baby glove box.

Thanks again, everybody! After a few weeks of work and about $500 in repairs, she is up and running like a champ. If you're in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and you need work done, we definitely recommend Blue Cat Motors in St. Paul over Scooterville in Minneapolis. Especially if you don't want to be treated like a moron for having a vintage bike.
