I had a long conversation on Thursday with Tim at Columbia scooters. if you didn't already know bajaj/argo USA is no more. Tim has the opportunity to get the remaining parts from the people that have them. from what he told me these people are not scooter people and if he or someone doesn't get them they will end up in a dumpster he has looked at the computer printout of whats there and he says there is quite a bit, some good some he would never be able to get rid of like 40 legend front forks. what he needs to know before taking this on that he has the support of the Bajaj community and he wont just be stuck with a bunch of parts. remember other than what local shops have these are the last in this country respond here and I will direct Tim to this. or send an email to Tim

so what happened to Bajaj/Argo USA? Did someone buy them out?

My scooter isn't broke (as far as I know) so I don't know what I would need to maintain it. I know I would ride it for many more years if the parts are available.

Columbia Scooters are good folks. He has my support for sure. Was in there last week buying parts. Will continue to support him as long as I'm scooting.

Camping Girl,

Argo was the importer of Bajaj scoots, and they did OK until Bajaj decided in 2005 to stop production. There were scoots in inventory (as well as parts in the SanFran parts wharehouse) but eventually Argo must go out of business. They did maintain their website but it is now gone too. I assume that it is the parts wharehouse inventory that is being sold.

Mike,

Tim has always been my source for parts and he would probably be smart to corner the market on Bajaj repair parts as these scoots are not going away for a long time. My scoot was originally sold by Tim Cool I want to get mine running this year and will need a crank assembly, new jug and a set of rings. A spare CDI and voltage regulator would be nice to have one the shelf just in case.

I'm all for Tim to be The Guy.

ps- I would love to know how many Bajaj scoots were sold in America ???

I've never heard anything but good about them, so yes I would order needed parts from them. IF the weather were better we would have more people posting to the board. So don't let lack of posts negatively influence his decision. We want to keep riding!

Tim has a printout of what is there his concern is the people that have the parts were partners with Al in some business venture. I think it had to do with vodka anyways they have no knowledge of scooters or what they have, Tim gets the feeling that if someone doesn't get them, rather then trying to ebay them they would just assume to dump them in a dumpster. part of the deal is they want Tim to buy some argos from them. he doesnt want them but if the parts will be used he will try to work something out. he is considering flying to S.F. to try to work something out.

My experiences with Tim and Columbia Scooters have always been positive. For the past eight months I've been encouraging Scooter Invasion, the local Phoenix, Arizona shop, to look to Columbia Scooters when in need of Bajaj parts.

To take over that inventory would be something of a risk, but I think Tim would do alright if we all help promote him as the go-to guy. Tell the local mechanics and shops in your area that Columbia Scooters has the right stuff.

I have two Chetaks and I intend to keep them running as long as possible.

Yeah Al just kind of tiptoed right out of this one didn't he! There was some guy advertising all kinds of parts from India on the board once, did anyone ever try buying anything from him?

A.S Exports? I bought a Belladonna (Stella) front end from them. It was a positive experience. Good condition product, cheap, timely shipping, pretty sure I paid via PayPal, and it arrived in a grubby sack adding a touch of hilarity. I've also ordered parts from another Indian seller I found on Alibaba.com, still waiting for these to arrive but I can let you guys know how it goes and provide contact details if anyone is interested.

I bought my first parts for my Legend from Tim, and Columbia Scooters was the first sticker I put on the most stickered Legend ever. So yeah, I will support them.
Post up what you have Tim and we'll do the ordering. It might be time to get some parts for our orphans and make it worth his while at the same time.

I have done most of my parts buying through POCPhil in the past. They got everything not in stock in Cleveland from Al and he'd drop ship from SF, but if he's gone, I'm not sure how POC can support the parts needs. Our local dealer was (and is) for shit, so I have gotten good at doing most everything myself and this site is INVALUABLE for tips! I am more than happy to get parts through Tim if he has them.

NB - I have also kept an eye on eBay for parts and I have a box of some spares (bulbs, etc.) but there's not so much on eBay these days.

My biggest fear is not being able to get parts for my Chetak a couple of years from now. Is Tim looking for specific support or just knowing that when the time comes, we'll be buying from him?

I don't have any extra $$ to throw into it now, but I wouldn't mind stocking up on some of the parts that are most likely to go (I've only got 3,000 on my 2002 Chetak).

What recommendations do you have regarding parts that I should have handy for their inevitable failing?

Spoke to COlumbia today. Apparently they didn't get the parts. They knew about them, called to see about buying them and never heard anything back. Neutral

http://newjersey.craigslist.org/mcy/2961651300.html I'm wondering if they have any Chetak or Legend parts in that $75,000 stash of parts. Clearly, this is should be investigated by some of our fine former Bajaj dealers so they can *possibly* keep our beloved scooters going a few more years.

Anyone know anything about this?

Post So dissapointed in Bajaj Reply with quote
I am new to this forum, but am pissed that Bajaj parts will be so hard to come by in the future... I can't even find something as simple as moon hubcaps right now (Anyone know of where I can get a pair?)! I have a 2002 with 3500 miles on it, and can only pray that it doesnt break down and need new parts!!!

It is true that the Bajaj 4T is no longer made, but things are not quite as bad as they seem.

The scoot is pretty much bullet proof is you maintain the valve settings and keep the oil changed on a regular basis. There are many owners with 10 or 20 thousand miles. Some items such as the CDI and switches/guages in the headstock are specific to your particular bike.

I don't know how many were imported to the US, nor how many were made for the Indian market but there will be parts available even if we have to order them from India.
