Im all for a bajaj club I just dont see why we need another website, this forum has worked great for a few years now and for the most part this group has become pretty close trying to help each other with their bajaj problems.
the fact that bajaj scooters were only in the us for 4 years I dont see us needing a bunch of groups we allready have the yahoo group and this one and pretty much everything that could be done on the facebook group has/is being done here.
I for one would like to hear what the other members of this forum think. another thing is when someone does a search for bajaj this forum is usually on top I think the club would get more exposure staying here and perhaps opening a club section than anywhere else.maybe Im wrong just my 2 cents

positive redundancy |
|
Why another website? Well, facebook isn't exactly a website, more a tool, and of course this website is beyond the pale as the definitive source of info on Bajaj. It provides in-depth info available nowhere else and works great. I think establishing an international or national or regional Bajaj club or clubs on this website is key, since it is the core of the Bajaj ridership online, and I think that Facebook is just another good tool to organize with, redundant to and pointing back at http://retrobajaj.informe.com ...the first thing a couple of us did was post links back to this forum. Anybody looking for real info on how to do stuff to Bajaj's will come here first.
Facebook is good at other stuff: organizing events, connecting users, photo collections. The discussion forums tend to not work that well on facebook, and the retrobajaj format works better for in depth topic threads. But for forming a club and a fanbase for something like the Chetak or the Legend, facebook is a good tool. For collecting and tagging photos of all of our scooters, it's a good tool. For getting to see what Bajaj owners in Indonesia ride, facebook works. It's also commercial and corporate and they own our souls, but that is nothing new.
It looks like the Oregon Scooter Club costs money, and so does the national Vespa club, but I would propose a free club, mainly because, as you pointed out, there are very few Bajaj in the US. Also, it's virtual and allows interesting possibilities of connecting with the global Bajaj riders, who number in the millions, tens of thousands of workers who drive Bajaj every day for a living, beyond us lucky sods that get to commute on Bajaj USA product...

ok it makes sense. I geuss I just get a little leary i have been a member of this group since it first started and this isnt the first time someone has tried to put a national thing together and a month later life changes and the organizer disapears. I also know you just recently got your scooter and most people are all gun ho when they first get their scooter, i just hope if you are going to organize this thing you stick with it at least until it can stand on its own. ya oregon scooter club charges but they also spend more than an internet group does. we have monthly rides and a 3 day camping rally members free, all food, camping, and beer included I think that covers the 35 dollar dues. but i agree there shouldnt be a cost for this and because we are small we could do some local and regional meet ups as far as a national thing i still think we could piggy back on another national rally like vegas at least in the begining so we see how many members show up. oh and by the way I was born in Springfield and raised in Newton my grandmother owned a drug store in Springfield for 40 years. near the X.

a club forum and a registry for Bajaj owners? |
|
I like this idea of a section on here for Bajaj clubs...how do we start a forum for Bajaj Clubs? I'm gonna send Danman178 a msg.
the new users forum and the Scooter space forum are awesome and acts as the registry of Bajaj.
Im looking at the 'where are you from?' post...it looks like California and Portland OR are the big concentrations, with the rest of us spread out all over: Texas, Ohio, PA. Makes a Ntl rally kind of hard...maybe Las Vegas one year and then a Bajaj meetup at an east coast rally the next? Looks like there are five Bajaj in New England...none in New York? How did Missouri get 11 Bajaj?
It will be interesting to see how the facebook pages do...they are pretty low maintenance, but I hear your concerns about abortive organizing attempts. I've been riding scooters and motorcycles since 1991, but I'm new to Baja. It may be that there just aren't enough of us to really organize much beyond a virtual club. my idea with an international bajaj rally day was more to have a virtual rally, where we could all participate by going for a ride on a Bajaj and then aggregate photos and posts on a page or forum topic devoted to posts from everybody's ride that day.

I've wondered myself what the total number of 4T Bajaj scooters in the US and the world might be. That would at least define the maximum fan base. The new 4T Stella might energize things too, as 4T shifty scoots are/were unique to our brand. As least we can claim "The First - The Original".
As I said elsewhere, the outlet you chose will define what you can do with the info you wish to present. Facebook is as good a place as any to adver-market our scoots. I hope someone will do something similar on MySpace too. The more the merrier.
This place is still the place for talk and info. I do keep a watch here and would like to point out that there seem to always be more 'guests' looking in than registered users. 'Course, there is no easy way to determine who these folk are and so I can't jump to erroneous conclusions like paid pollsters, but there appear to be more readers than posters here.
There have to be heptzillions of 4T's in India, so you would think that eventually we would hook up with bunches of those folk Maybe someone can work on that angle?

I found this but it looks kinda dead: http://www.scooterwiki.com/directory/gas_moped_motor_scooters/bajaj_gas_moped_motor_scooters/bajaj_chetak/
WIKI SITES:
I posted some links back to here last year. We could expand on these entries. They will be around for a long time as I think WIKI will become the Encyclopedia Galactica of our future.

We own 'em, we ride 'em, so we may as well promote The CULT of Bajaj.

Actually, Triumph made the "Tigress" which was a manual shift 4 stroke scooter. 200cc (I think), but shifted all wonky like a motorcycle. I don't think we're "technically" the first.
