Oh yeah...
Paz... the info you have provided to me & I am sure many others is a massive help...
a post with all the pertinent info would be a very beneficial offering.
I ordered a plug from DaveKnowsDeals... but didn't think to ask if he had the resistor cap thingy...
I am sending him an E after this to see if he does... ( I feel like Stevie Wonder here)
I am also wondering... if there is a cross reference chart out there to see if there is a Bosch spark plug alternative..
one of the 4 post ones?... I just figured if 1 is good, 2 or more has got to be better.......... ?
Thanks for all your help...
I hope I am able to contribute something useful soon

How about key replacements? I am getting mine made today. From this forum and the Yahoo forum, the ones that consistently come up as good replacements are: ILCO X186, DA-24 (Nissan?), and Hillman SU-17.
I have not personally checked any of these out, but there are posts that report they work. I will let you know the results of my key search today.

What about oil types, synthetic and dyno?
I use Amsoil 10W-40 Fully Synthetic for Wet Clutches. Get it at your local motorbike shop.

Thanks Matty, hopefully more people will help contribute and the list will continue to grow.
Funny thing is, I actually don't have a scooter, never have, but have one being delivered this week. I bought it off of JerseyBiker from this forum. Once that happens, I hope to contribute more when I actually know what I'm talking about.

How about some battery data
My OE battery is an Exide 12MX9-B aka 12v 9AH.
I was only able to find one replacement easily and that was at Batteries Plus. Theirs is a 9b (130 cca) I think and they quoted me $37.99 but I didn't buy one. Don't need it yet, just thinking ahead for next year since mine was made in 05 I wouldn't expect it to last much longer. I brought the levels back up to snuff with distilled water and added the drain tube that was missing. I'll just keep an eye on it and bring it in doors during the winter and cycle it on my trickle charger with the rest of my deep cycle batteries.
Anyone else know of some direct replacements?

Spark Plugs: - discussion - Bosch to NGK cross reference -
BPR7HIX -----NGK5944-------- NGK Iridium upgrade - discussion
BP7HS ----------------------- NGK stock replacement
PL7YC ---------------------- Champion stock replacement
W5BC --------7531--------------- Bosch stock replacement
W5BP ---------7931-------------- Bosch stock replacement
I inserted the stock numbers that will make it easier to ask for availability when calling your local parts store.
AutoZone doesn't carry the iridiums, ORiley 2-14 day special order... maybe. Advance pay in advance next day pick up ($6.99), NAPA in stock $9.19
I couldn't find a Bosch 4+ upgrade for either of the two listed plugs, and it was very frustrating since bosch doesn't seem to want to list their plugs on line by anything but application(yr,MK,Mod...)
Denso Listed a plug that cross referenced with the NGK5944 as plug # IWF22
So NAPA gets my $

I bought my iridium plugs (BPR7HIX) off of ebay. A seller that goes by the name of DaveknowsDeals sells them really cheap.

How did that Amsoil scooter oil work. I'd be afraid that it wasn't for wet clutch applications like ours.

How did that Amsoil scooter oil work. I'd be afraid that it wasn't for wet clutch applications like ours. |
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® 10W-40 Synthetic Scooter Oil (ASO) is formulated specifically to meet the special needs of today’s high-tech air- and water-cooled fourstroke motorized scooters, offering unsurpassed wear protection and friction reduction for longer equipment life and cooler operating temperatures. Its exceptional shear stability ensures consistent viscosity protection and provides additional protection for transmissions and gear boxes, while its friction modifier-free formulation ensures wet clutch compatibility and smooth clutch operation. A special anti-corrosion additive package provides long-term protection during periods of inactivity and storage.
Shear Stability
High engine rpms common to scooter applications increase shear, causing conventional lubricants to lose viscosity and reduce their ability to control wear, resulting in shorter engine life. The synthetic formulation of Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil effectively resists shear, delivering consistent viscosity protection for unsurpassed wear protection and extended equipment life.
Thermal Stability
The operating temperatures of scooter engines fluctuate greatly, especially with air-cooled engines. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil resists breakdown at elevated temperatures, maintaining its protective viscosity for maximum wear control.
Transmission and Gear Box Compatibility
In many scooter applications, the engine and transmission and/or gear box share the same oil reservoir. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is absolutely shear stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity, providing superior protection for transmissions and gear boxes.
Wet Clutch Compatibility
Some scooters utilize a frictional clutch to engage and disengage the engine from the drivetrain. In many cases, this clutch is immersed in the same oil used in the engine and transmission. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil contains no friction modifiers and is wet clutch compatible, offering smooth clutch operation and increased clutch life.
Rust and Corrosion Protection
Scooters are often subjected to extended periods of inactivity and storage, exposing the equipment to internal rust and corrosion. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is formulated with a special anti-corrosion additive package designed to provide long-term protection during periods of inactivity and storage.
Applications and Recommendations
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is recommended for use wherever SAE 10W-40 motor oil is specified in air- and watercooled four-stroke motorized scooter engines, transmissions and gear boxes that require the following:
API SG, SL/CF
JASO MA/MA2 (motorcycle wet clutch)
Engine manufacturers include, but are not limited to, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Vespa, Aprilia, Piaggio, Benelli, Vento, Kymco, Tank and TGB.
I had to know...sorry.

i put the mobil1 10w40 motorcycle stuff in my scoot. it seems alot louder to me now. like...a camchain noise on a triumph. i assume its because its a lighter weight oil...just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with the mobil1?

I wouldn't worry about it, it's good oil. They are all somewhat different in their viscosity agents, and will transmit sound differently too.

Parts List |

Rufus,
I am a fairly new member and have seen very positive contribution made by you on a consistent basis. Obviously you are very much involved in Chetak business and take great interest in understanding and sharing the technical issues. It is indeed a great work you are doing. I thought I let you know how much I appreciate reading your responses. I hope you do not loose interest and keep doing what you are doing. I will keep trying to make some contribution too consistent with my limited technical base.
I still have not been able to attach the pictures in my message. I reaed the thread but my limited computer skill level is playing its role. I tried to use PICASA and could not follow through am willing to try something else. Can you or some one provide detailed instruction for people like me by giving an actual example? The current BROWS link type approach would be great.
Thanks again your continued support to the Chetak forums.
