Please be honest.. I won't be offended! |
|
I'm a new member but I've been lurking for a few weeks. I love the community on here - everyone seems very cool!
My good friend has a Chetak and he loves it so I've been looking into to buying a used Bajaj and found a Legend that looks like it's in good shape on CL. The question I have is this, I'm about 6'2" and weigh around 300lbs (but I'm very light on my feet for a big guy!). I need the Bajaj to commute to work in the L.A. area and I might be using it to drive on some canyon roads. Is the Legend going to have enough power for me? Am I going to be putt-putting up the canyon roads slowing down traffic?
In high school I drove a 50cc Honda Express and I'll never forget the shame i felt as I was being passed, crawling up steep hills at 15mph. I don't need to repeat that.
Thanks in advance!

I rode my nephew over to Taneyville a few months ago which would be a combined weight of about 280. One the way there is an almost 1 mile hill that's darn steep that I am lucky to top going 40 mph just by myself (135). I probably hit that at 35 in 3rd with him on board. These scoot do have some torque, but like a lot of small displacement scoots slow down on the bigger hills.
Get your friend to give you some advice or perhaps let you take it for a spin on them canyon roads so you could see for yourself.

I often ride 2-up with my partner. Together, we weigh 330 lbs, and that excludes riding gear. I'm often impressed by the power of the scooter when we're in traffic. Only thing is, we live in Chicago, so we don't get much in the way of hills. Echoing what's already been said, it might be a good idea to borrow your friend's scoot & test ride it on the route.

I live on a hill in Seattle |
|
I'm 200 pounds, and commute with my wife up one of the steeper hills in Seattle (the "Counterbalance", an 18% grade). We can just keep up with traffic, though that's probably only 15-20mph. I can go the same speed up that hill with or without my wife (who's weight I won't mention, but over 120lb). A friend came to visit up the same hill on a little 50cc twist-and-go scooter and pedestrians were almost able to keep up with him.
No scooter's going to fly up hills, but the Bajaj has a lot more horsepower than most.

Buy a Chetak & Move to Illinois |
|
I had to giggle at Mike's comment. Wisconsin folks call Illinois folks "flat-landers".
If you all want to hit top speeds on your scoots, I assure you there is no better place than Illinois.
So just buy the Chetak and move to Chicago!

Pepsikid,
Any luck? I'm intrigued regarding the Chetak's hill-climbing prowess. And Alana, you've got my vote for club president--that should virtually lock up Chicago for you!

If there are no objections Alana (aka Pxichk1) is hereby nominated to President, Chetak Riders of Chicago.
* vague reference to an old R&B tune

Alana gets my vote for president too. I think there are only ten Chetak owners in Chicago, so she's close to a majority already.
