Pxlchk's Astonishing Red Chetak |
|
Hi guys-
I finally got around to picking some shots to post in the Scooter Space.
This is from the day I got the Chetak:
And then, after my dad passed away, my oldest daughter and I did the Ride For Kids (an organization that raises funds for pediatric brain cancer research...he passed from brain cancer) on the Chetak in a sea of big bikes. Did we care? Hell no!
More later...

Great shots! |

We often don't get to document lifes little experiences but you nailed it. That's pretty cool for you and your daughter to have participated in that ride. My condolences to you and your family on your father's passing.

Thank you AtLarge.
Looking back at those pics, I can't believe how she's grown just since then. This is us checking into the event together.
She's 15 now and that was in '04. Totally different girl.

Wotcher do to the front carrier box (the one that bonks my knees on a regular basis) loverly lady?
Curious - in the pic wby the red rails it looks like you took the lid off it. Extra storage or something? Or maybe I need new glasses.
Either way - cool bike.

... I think that's the magic known as "opening the glove box." ;-)
Pixlchk - you are clearly an awesome mom. Introducing your kid to that kind of experience. That's quality.

Aww!!! Thanks guys. That's very sweet to say.
As for the glove box, MattyX cracked the case. It was open.

Always look for a complex explanation... |

When a simple one will do. Maybe I do need new glasses

I used the link that Sophia provided to the Bajaj rear rack. It was, on average, $20 less than most places...a great resource. Bolted straight onto the spare tire rack in less than 3 minutes. It's pretty solid, too. I was scooting around last night and heard no vibration or rattling.

Oh, and by "nice", I was fishing for "nice rack"! A brilliantly unique comment delivered by my smartypants husband several times yesterday afternoon.

I am always impressed by the red Chetaks. What a beautiful daughter you have. Man, you are just like this awesome enigma of energy with all the stuff you do,can't wait to meet you in the future at the "fists of curry" or if I run into you at one of the other rallies. My girlfriend Stacy is always excited to meet other ladies who love to scoot as well. Rock On Pixel Chick!

And more! |

Rob, thank you for the very sweet words! You made my day! Can't wait to meet your wife. Always cool to meet other couples who ride, especially other gals.
Just posted some new pics of the recent addition of a basket and toolbox. I got the lift-off basket at a local bicycle shop and found that the bracket mounts perfectly to the Bajaj rear folding rack. -And at about $24, it's cheaper than most I've found at scooter shops, which is a null point anyway because everyone's sold out of their accessories.
Need to figure out/fabricate some nice bracket for the amp in the glove box and a way to clean up the mess of wires.

Sooo, at the risk of... |
|
At the risk of getting electronically whacked and probably disinvited from Fists of Curry,..
Have the admiring comments gone from "Nice Rack!" to "Sweet mother look at that caboose"! Watch out for the "junk in the Trunk" genre too

Pxlchk- I'm curious as to how you wired the stereo, i.e., did you power it straight off the stock battery? I didn't see another battery in the glove box. Run the wire out the bottom of the glovebox and under the floor mat? I'm considering doing this, but want to know what kind of hassle I'd be looking at.
Also, how'd you cut the holes in the top of the glovebox for the speakers? I'm pretty short on know how and very short on tools, so any guidance would be appreciated.
Kyle

Hey Kyle,
Yes, that's precisely how I did it. Off the battery, up under the floor mat, into the glove box. Matty X has a really great tutorial on how to do this whole thing, including a project parts list and photos. I just went looking for the link and can't find it. That tutorial should be sticky, IMO, but maybe he'll see this post and help us out.
I used a Dremel tool in short, controlled strips then took the sanding disk and smoothed down all the burrs.
It's such an easy job, really nothing to be intimidated by at all. And it makes such a huge difference in my commute and mood. It took me all of 7 minutes to hook up all the wiring and another 30 to cut the holes. USE SAFETY GLASSES.
Scooterworks has a kit for almost $300, but I paid under $70 for everything. I'm really not sure where the cost difference is coming from. They're 3 inch marine speakers. They can't be that much better.
Good luck! Please be sure to post pics if you do it!
-Alana
