Racing stripes... |
|
Does anyone know where I can get some colored racing stripes, maybe like 1/2" thick? I tried Auto Zone and Kragen, but they have a very limited selection. Any links or websites to stores would be cool too. Thanks guys!

vinyldisorder.com has a good selection of racing decals. Some are pretty cheesy, but search through and see what tickles your fancy.
I've bought from them before and the stickers are really good quality.

I got mine from Sign-a-rama. Any sign shop ought to be able to make them for you. You can customize them any way you like. I had great luck with them. They're vinyl stickers and are pretty permanent, but can be removed with a heat gun and a plastic scraper.
Where are you planning on putting them? If you put them on the cowls, remember that the flat, bottom side of the cowls are not parallel to the ground. You can either put them parallel to the cowls or parallel to the ground. I chose parallel to the ground. It took two people and a bit of work and lots of patience, but I'm very happy with how mine turned out.

Bailey has a good idea. Decades ago (darn near pre-PC) a friend looked into a vinyl cutting machine to replace hand lettering on truck doors. With today's PCs and plotters you should be able to find places that can turn most any simple graphic image into stick-on vinyl whether is a simple stripe to the 'patches' that folk are experimenting with here.

Thanks! I am pretty proud of it...
I look forward to seeing what you do too. I really like the look of two stripes down the front...I imagine it should be much easier for you to put stripes down the front than it was trying to get stripes parallel with the ground. I think I used a little windex to add some moisture as I was putting the stripes on to help keep bubbles out...and I went slowly. I don't think I have ever been so meticulous in my life!
Do post some pics and let us know what you ended up doing.

Will do! Thanks for the Windex tip. I don't know when I'll get around to it! There are so many mods I want to do to it. I just took the front glove box yesterday, I like how it looks without it.

I like the look without the glove box too, but I really really like having the storage. I use it all the time for quick trips to the grocery store, sweatshirts when the temp changes 10 degrees from my foggy SF neighborhood to the sunny neighborhood that I often find myself in, tool kit, lock, etc...
When are you gonna post some pics?
Late,
Baileyman

I agree on both counts. Love the non-glovebox look, but NEED that storage.

Chetak glove boxes are a lot more aesthetically pleasing than the Legand boxes. I removed mine for looks, but I do miss the storage.

I found 1/2" black pinstripes on the internet. They are black, but are reflective at night when a light is shone directly on them. sorry, can't remember the source but I recall there were several sources selling the same thing. I imagine you can find non-reflective also. There are photos in the my scooter space thread under "Pablos' 06 Chetak."

I decided to go with a custom made vinyl sticker! I ordered a set from vinyldisorder.com. I am a big fan of The Professional, as you can see from my avatar, and it's the same image, only a friend of mine did an all black image of it. So that's what they were able to do, custom made! Two decals, about 8x5 for ten bucks! I will post shots as soon as I get the decals put on. Thanks for all the advice! You guys are awesome!!

My scooter shop in Northridge, CA sells black and white checkered tape like for taxi cabs. It looks awesome on scooters. I'm gonna put a checkered stripe on my scooter to match the whole black. white and silver theme. But this checkered tape doesn't reflect like that 3M reflector tape. It's just black and white. I've seen reflective checker stripe kits on a scooter site, but can't remember which one. Good luck with your racing stripes!
