I know this is the most basic of questions, but what is the "reserve tank" and what is it's function? The other day I was riding and the gauge read empty. I figured I could just flip the fuel cock to "reserve" when I started to sputter out (as I have done before) and make it to the next gas station. The scooter ran out of gas, I flipped the fuel cock and ... I was still out of gas. To be fair, I was able to start the motor for a second and a half after it had died (once on reserve), but that was it. I had to walk the scooter a mile or so to the gas station and fill it up. It started right back up and has rode fine since.

Do you still have your inline fuel filter? Mine would not run on reserve until I pulled the tank and replaced the stock fuel line/got rid of that filter. Also, open the tank and look inside. You will see a tall white filter and shorter white mesh filter right beside it. once the petrol no longer reaches the tall filter(main), it can still drain through the shorter(reserve) until it's so low that you're not getting any flow. It's only one tank, one fuel line. The reserve is just there so you don't get yourself in a jam. You can ride on reserve all day if you wanted (as long as you remember to fill up).

Are you sure it wasn't a vapor lock issue? Is the gray vent hose that comes off of the top of the tank attached? I used to think that I was running out of gas, and was getting no help from the reserve until I read up on the vapor lock issue. I (and many others) disconnected that hose and have had no problems since.
