Very good point!

Heh, yeah, I figure every mile on the scoot is a mile I don't drive the car. I even track my gas savings -- $660 saved over 2 years so far. Unfortunately most of that has gone toward mods and maintenance, so it's not like I'm paying off the scoot or anything, but maybe in 10 years of commuting or so...

16,700 miles at the moment (7,000 of them aren't mine, though). VERY happy with this little machine! My next milestone is the big 20 thou...

I feel it is important to mention the additional cost savings... and run them into your calculation as well. How about myself It costs me 78$ a year to insure my scoot as apposed to about 80 a month for my car. Also Automobile taxes and tags cost much much less. I think you will find a much larger savings...

Hey Dan

Yeah, the calculations get a little complicated. I didn't sell the car, so I still pay all of those expenses, I just use it less. Maybe I'll post all of my calculations sometime. On the plus side, I did buy it in lieu of a second car when we thought we were going to need one, and in that scenario I would have made out like a bandit. Turns out my wife is able to commute by bus, so we don't *need* the second vehicle per se. However, I kept it because it's too fun to give up, and I figure I'm saving enough in commuter gas to at least pay for my mods, insurance, yearly checkup, etc., so I regard it as a relatively guilt-free, practical toy.

Mala Mujer and I just got back from a ride on which I rolled 10,000 miles on the Chetak. Ten Thousand miles! It feels good.

Ten thousand miles on the odometer!

A thousand miles per digit.

And how do you like that Corazzo jacket? Pretty wind/waterproof?

We both like our Corazzo Hoodies. They're so...California. They don't have a back pad but apparently you can now order them with one. They now offer the same jacket without hood called "The Max," I believe. Corazzos have their own kind of fit so you might want to try one on. I ordered mine from a shop in Milwaukee when I lived in Madison. I took back the XL for the Large but its a little short at the waist. A Large tall would be perfect but this one looks so...California.

If you zip up the vents its pretty water and windproof but not perfect. There are better jackets for the money out there but they won't be as so...California.

Bought a house. Moved in over 4th of July weekend. Rolled 11,000 as we were riding the scoots over to the new house. I'm almost eleven five now so it won't be long now before I hit twelve. Electrical system stopped working last month and I had to kick start it for a few days until I had the folks at Motorsport Scooters get it back to like new. It still likes to mark its territory but I've grown to find that endearing.

I've got a Pav trailer for it but just can't seem to find the time to work on it. Originally I got it to tow the dog but I'm pretty certain it will be used to haul around a mini keg. Es muy importante!

I, too, passed the 5,000 mark this week. The only major issue to date has been the "loose clutch hub nut" problem, resolved quickly thanks to the relevant threads in this forum.

I rolled over 9,000 on the way back from the Memphis rally. Good times, and she handled swimmingly.

Turned over 6,000 miles on the odometer today, just minutes after finishing the 6K service. Finally replaced the 2002 regulator. Bike runs, sounds, handles, and looks great!

Totally forgot about my odometer tracking and rolled over 11,000 some time last week. (Knock on wood), but so far, the only maintenance I've done on this bike is oil changes, cable replacements, and as of last week, a rear brake shoe replacement.

Go Amsoil!

Rolled over 12,000 on my way back from Resurgence II rally in Atlanta. I always seem to hit the marks during rallies!

By the way, y'all, if you're ever in the Southeast, those Atlanta peeps sure are a welcoming crew. Very organized and always fun. I look forward to the next one!

Odometer turned past 9,000 miles yesterday. Absolutely zero issues since the 6,000 mile service.

Doods,

Rolled 13,000 a few weeks ago. The scoot was out of commission for about 6 months while I pursued some other interests. My work commute is now only about three miles but I'm back to riding almost every day. I can't believe how reliable and how much fun this ride has been. It will be interesting to see how the new 4T Stellas compare over time.

My odometer turned over past 1,000 last night on my second Red 2002 Bajaj Chetak. My first one was taken out of service at 9,075 miles by a little old lady in a silver minivan last November. I'm still waiting for an insurance settlement.

These are great bikes! I tell everyone I meet, but no one seems to pay any attention. That's just as well, I guess, since it helps keep the price down. I got this second one a few weeks ago for only $1,000 with 236 miles on it.

I now have 33,000+ miles on it. Finally had to replace the tires at 30k and just had to replace the drive chains (they had gotten a little stretched out.)

Got mine painted last year. For some photos, go to: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.102803393100087.1688.100001112806455

In the picture of the rear, you can see that I have rewired all the tail lights. Never liked the lights hanging under the body. Now to find a better place for the license plate.

The picture of me with the trophy is for Best Vintage at the scooter rally here in Austin last Oct.
