Tell me some of your favorite scooter culture flicks or scooter heavy films are. I really like Quadraphenia of course. I like Mod cinema as well. Give me something to add to my netflix que. Very Happy (don't have to be british mod stuff, I was just using that as an example)

FLCL (foolie coolie)...if you like Anime. It has some really great scooter stuff in it, and for me is more influential in my scootering than Quadraphenia...If you arnt used to off the wall Japanese stuff, then it may come across as just wierd.

I liked FLCL (saw it before I was into scooters though and actually had forgotten all about it so maybe I'll have to watch it again) but my favorit "scooter" movie has got to be 'Roman Holiday'. Although scooters are really the subject matter and aren't featured too often (though the movie poster would have you believe otherwise), it's just a great movie if you're into older, romatic kinda flix. Embarassed

EDIT: You into anime Paul or just like FLCL? I saw it mentioned before in the tunz thread and have been meaning to ask.

I'm an anime nerd, so I'd also mention Witch Hunter Robin. But FLCL, (in my top 5, scooter or not) definitely has a lot of references to scootering. Haruka's nemesis even rides a Lammy while she rides that Vespa.

I've never even seen Quadrophenia. Shocked

A couple websites I just found via Google that list a lot of scoot flix are here and here. There is a bit of overlap but there are some brief comments listed on both sites I posted both. I don't know much about mod cinema but I did the French New Wave stuff. You're also pretty much assured to catch a glimpse of several scoots in any Fellini flick.

It's kind of funny to watch movies after you've become a "scooter person". MC and I are always spotting scoots now. There're be some central plot point discussion going on and we'll notice the piece of Chinese plastic leaning against a building that's barely in frame.

Shocked Shocked Shocked

Not the greatest movie in the world but kinda cool for general scoot or lammy fans. I'd still consider it a must see. Plus it features a young Sting.

Qhadrophenia was a movie I really appreciated before my love of scooters. It is not the greatest film around but I do agree with Mark that it is a must see. Not just for the scooters either, It has all the good things in life like teenage angst, pills, alcohal, rebellion, sex, and riots Laughing . Has anyone seen this preview? looks like it might be cool!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LP41tRkXYg
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I have a whole new world to explore. I like anime, though I have not watched alot- so having the suggestions of ones with scooters gives me a place to start.

There was a movie with Nicole Kidnam - she rode a yellow scooter of some kind. It was a cool movie, she was like a foreigh diplomat, or translator or something.

"The Interpreter".

I liked that one. The scooter actually helped me like it, though.

I have that FLCL episodes 1 and 2 on their way to me from NetFlix.

Yeah, let me know what you think. I have sort of an unofficial thesis on FLCL.

I recieved flcl #1 from netflix last night and watched it. The music was really good, The animation was exciting, and the plot was over the top! I expected it to be over the top. I am stressin' hard lately because they are testing my ass off at school and I really enjoyed the scene with the Ric bass. Hell, I liked the whole bit. I watched it with my girlfriend and she is a social worker at a youth home and has to hear and see horrible real life stuff everyday so she would cringe now and again. I have part two on the way, and I think I will watch part one again before I return it. Its nice how far animiation has come since Lupin III. I noticed alot of Cinematography methods that you really don't see in the older stuff. And of course the colors are boomin' compared to the old VHS dubs. Twisted Evil
That new movie with Adam Sandler has him riding a funky little scooter board thing in it . It was a real good movie too in my book. The scooter thing is kinda secondary though it does emulate the freedom of being outside the cage.

Funny I always thought the rockers in Quadrophenia were so much cooler, I still love my scoot and all but I prefer the stripped down rough look to the chromed out vanity mirror fake lights and badges everywhere thing.

The best way to watch it is watch the episode, then watch it with directors commentary, then watch it again. It makes alot more sense and you can appreciate some of those intense scenes better...

Yeah, I can see where they come off as dandys sometimes-and both groups were wearing the uniform of their click. I REALLY like the kinks, small faces, who, and other music that came out of that mod culture. I tend to go with the mods as cool because to me they seem the more rebelious and exciting. Even the abundance of mirrors was a big finger to the man from what I have read. It was supposedly started because of a law put into effect that required scooters to have mirrors so the blatent abundance was a sarcastic statement. Maybe the lights too! Good movie either way.

I just watched the preview for "Roman Holiday" and I noticed that Audrey Hepburn runs over people with a vespa then hits them in the head with a guitar. Seemed a little famliar Wink .

A quiet argument here, in the local tribe is, does Quad end with the destruction of the Vespa, or the rider and the Vespa? What's the opinion in this crowd? R

Only The vespa he steals from the bellboy(sting) is destroyed at the end. The movie begins by showing the end. Jimmy gets up off the ground while excerpts of songs ring in his head. You see the sunset on the sea that he has let the vespa run off the cliff into, he turns around and begins to walk back toward home and it cuts to the timeline beginning of the story and jimmy is riding his Lammy down the streets at night shouting greetings to his mates as "The Real me " Rocks in the back ground.

His lammy had been destroyed before he takes stings silver vespa by getting hit by the delivery truck.

Hey thanks for the insight. I have no recall of the very beginning of the movie. Tho I do remember the theft of the Vespa and the Lammie getting hit by a truck. Never worked as a bellboy... Thank God....We are the Mods... We are the aging, pedantic, historical, philosophizers, scooter riders. How long since you saw the movie Cowboyrob? R

I watched it a couple of weeks ago. You can get a version on dvd put out by Rhino and it is really worth the cost. It has been remastered in picture and (most importantly) sound. The songs sound great compared to the old VHS. There are cool bonus features as well such as: a guide to mod movies, a trivia track to watch with the movie, a short Vespa collage, A drivers eye scooter ride from London to the beach. Nice indeed.
Very Happy
I love John Entwhistle and these songs sound so much better in this mix. Another fabulous DVD if you like the Who is "the kids are alright". I cannot begin to describe how much restoration did for this. This rocks so hard! Rhino out did themselves on it. I waited forever for it to be re released and when they finally put it on DVD it was well worth the wait. I would recommend it even if you aren't a "big" Who fan. It is called by many the greatest rock documentary in existence.(except of course for Spinal Tap Laughing )

There is a nice little white PX in the movie "Breaking Away." I had forgot about that. This is one of my all time favorite movies. It is not a scooter movie and the scooter scenes are short, but the movie is fantastico. If you have not scene it then do yourself a favor and go rent it. Especially if you are in the mood for a Jocks vs. nerds, Frat vs. townie, Rich vs. not rich, coming of age type movie. Smile

I remember watching this with Mark and we were pausing and rewinding to get a better look at the scooters. Laughing It was also a damn good movie even without the scoots.
