In October I'm packin' my ass and my big ass Bajaj to Texas. Dallas to be exact. I'd like to eventually make it to Austin, but Dallas is where I'll be for a little while.

So what's the deal with Tex-Ass? Good scooter clubs? Amerivespa in San Antonio in 2010. Anybody here with a Bajaj live in the Dallas area? Good riding weather? Do I need to watch out for crazy rednecks? I'm a Yank on a lime green scooter. What will the locals think? Will I get my Yankee girly ass kicked?

I'm excited! Since I'll not know a single person, who wants to hang out?

I worked in Texas for awhile, they won't kick your ass because they are pussy's face to face, they will run you over with their big ass truck. Laughing

Just kidding. They will run you over then kick your ass.

No really, they are pretty nice folks in Texas. Dallas had a killer music scene back in the 1900's with the butthole surfers playing rgularly and later when the punk pop scene started breaking there were groups like Hagfish, REO speed dealer, Tripping daisey etc. There also used to be this place there called the aqualounge in Deep Elem where some bad characters from my little town would drive too and buy this crap called ecstamacy and assid and bring it back and sale it to little kids on there way to sunday school. Shame on those guys- SHAME.

If you are passing through Fayetteville Arkansas on your way holla at me and I will take you on an awesome ride through the twisty hills of the pig trail. Some of the best riding this side of the dragons tail. PLUS we might even run upon a little deliverance action.

I'm excited about the music scene. I'm ready to get away from this boring, pretentious, trust-funded indie rock scene in Portland and listen to some real fucking rock and roll made by people with some attitude. Maybe I'll get to see the Old 97's play.

I'll take a deliverance tour as long as I'm with people. Alone would be scary.

I think you're going to find that most places you go these days.

You might be right, but I need to get out of the PNW. Been here all my life.

There's the classic scooter "Piston Broke SC" here in Austin that's kind of dying because they don't invite people to ride. There's also the Austin Scooter Club that fairly active. I think there is a group in Dallas, and they come down from time to time. We're happy to have you. Good luck avoiding the hipsters in in Austin though...

Send me a PM if you would like more info.

I think you've missed all the Dallas rallies(that is, I think), but we'll be having a shifter rally here in probably November. Check scoot.net

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Nobody hates pretentious hipsters as much as me, (seriously, we did research and everything), but did you get a job, or what takes you to Texas?

It's got to be a job, right? Please tell me it's a job.

Well, honestly, I just need to get out of Portland. It's been really really hard to find work. I'm going in to debt while getting rejection letter after rejection letter. I've had job offers, then had those jobs lost their funding literally the very next day. I've never been unemployed this long in my life and I'm tired of sitting around waiting for the 14% unemployment rate to get better. All I see is it getting worse. I have some family in Texas who offered me their house while I get back on my feet. More jobs in Texas. I need a change right now. It doesn't mean I won't come back, but I'm ready to try something new.

I don't like to tell people I'm going to Texas because then they will try to talk me out of it!

Go to Tejas.
Stop by Cowboy Rob's and troll a creek on the way down, even tho it's out of the way.
Relax.
Either you can handle the big D or the big D will handle you, with a pad ya got the ad-van-tage.

Oh, I can handle the big D. But the question is whether it can handle me. Muahahaha!

I wish you every success, and I also hope you come back. How's that for a mixed message?

Being from Mississippi, I didn't think I would be fond of Texas either. I don't live in Texas though, I live in Austin. Tinkerbell says hi.

That's the attitude a lot of people here in Fayetteville have. "I don't live in Arkansas, I live in Fayetteville." Laughing

I'd never thought of it but both towns are quite similar, semi-hip college music scene, and even terrain.

Yeah Rufus, they are similar. Both towns have there share of pretentious assholes too. A lot of the posers in Fayetteville sport these bumper stickers that say "keep fayettevillle FUNKY", which I am sure is a direct rip-off of the "keep Austin Weird" campaign. As far as I can tell, both of their "scenes" also evolved from a group of artist-hippie-freaks from California that went looking for something new in the 70's and 80's. Cool towns, for a long visit.
