Toolbox Topbox - help wanted |
|
I got the bright idea of using a toolbox as an improv topbox.
I have a milk crate now, and it looks pretty bad... works fine though. You can put a surprising amount of groceries in a milk crate. So I need something at least that big, that doesn't stick out and look crappy.
Anyone have any good thoughts on a budget topbox that doesn't involve any major fabrication?

I use a toolbox. I think it looks fine.
My standard suggestion is to make sure a gallon of milk fits in the toolbox, upright. The hardware store that I bought mine at carried gallons of bottled water, so I was able to check that out before buying

The other budget topbox consideraton is this thing. I know they carry this at WalMart. This is what I used on my first scooter. I did lose the lid on a bumpy campground road, though, and would strongly suggest modifying it so that the lid remains attached at all times. It should be possible to put some weatherstripping on it to improve its watertightness if you frequently ride in rain.
I prefer the toolbox, but this would carry as much as your milk crate.
The good thing about toolboxes and even this Action Packer is that they do support the use of a padlock if necessary.

My buddy HiTechRedneck has one of those on her Big Ruckus. It's awesome. She hauled all her camping gear in it with room for beer to spare.
She keeps the lid from flying off by using a lock on one side.
