I just sent an email to Al over at argo/bajaj that came back undeliverable. I know my local bajaj/argo dealer is out of business, so is he as well?

I have found that a lot of the mail order shops are running low on parts. Many are on terminal back-order. Is Bajaj/Argo belly up? ...time to start picking up those wrecked/blown up/junker Chetaks & stashing the good parts away...

Columbia Scooters here in Portland is still going strong thank goodness! I've seen at least a half dozen local scooter dealers go away in the last couple of years though.

This brought up something I been thinking about anyway. Besides tubes, cables, what else is good to have on hand that may wear out on the scoots. i.e. clutch plates, certain bearings, brake pads, etc.

From bajaj groups on yahoo from Al:

Yes, Argo is still in business and still providing parts for Bajaj and Argo
scooters. Scooter sales are approaching zero, and we have lost 1/2 of our
dealers to the lousy economy, but we continue to do our best to supply parts
for the scooters we sold.

We are licensed in California as a wholesaler so we can't sell direct to
you. That requires a whole lot of licensing and paperwork which doesn't
make economic sense at this time. So if you need parts for a Bajaj or Argo
scooter, contact our part time parts guy, Gus Wong, at service@...
he can tell you if we have the part in stock and direct you to a dealer that
can provide it to you.

I have not posted lately because most of my time is now taken up doing new
product research, design and development... which is what I was doing before
I got involved in the scooter business.

You can email me at akolvites@... if the need arises.

Regards,
Al Kolvites

Thanks grbspecb and Al,
This is great news, as I plan to keep the Chetak for many years and was wondering about parts availability.
Ride on!

i need those lug nuts - 3 for each wheel - that hold the wheel cover on. for some reason, my chetak has only 2 on the front wheel so the wheel cover looks like it is about to fall off. also the black cap is very loose on the wheel cover. is it supposed to have a rubber o-ring to make it stick closed? if so, i need those o-ring replacements.

i only have one ignition key so if i lose it i am really out of luck. do you have spare keys that i can order by number or do you have blanks that i can have cut locally?

let me know if you have these parts
emaiil me directly at reporter@erols.com

thanks
cliff

Bring your ignition key to a good locksmith and he can find a suitable blank to make a copy. Mine found 2 different ones. I believe one of the blanks was an italian motorcycle blank.

keys were made by my locksmith with Yugo keys. He said, "Finally, these balnks have been up here for 15 years, I thought they were useless. Who has Yugos anymore?" he was right about questioning the Yugos......but the key blanks are not.

One spare part I try to keep around is a complete headset & front end. Kinda hard to find a good used one & not very likely that I'll need it. But if I get swallowed by a pothole & bend something, chances are I'm gonna screw up the headset in the process...
