BajajUSA is into it! |
|
Letter to Argo/BajajUSA:
"Good evening!
I just wanted to let you know that the North American Bajaj fans have decided it's high time to hold a national Bajaj-specific rally. The date and place are yet TBD, but we would LOVE it if BajajUSA would support this effort. Would you folks be interested in sponsoring the event in any manner? I think it would be a truly wonderful thing if a representative could make it to the event. We're looking at St. Louis or Kansas City, most likely in the late Spring of 2009. We all love our bikes and look forward to hearing your feedback."
Response from the President of Argo/BajajUSA:
"Of course! Keep me updated on your progress. You are taking on a difficult task. I would suggest you talk to Barry Gwin, the owner of San Francisco Scooter Centre. He has many years of experience running successful scooter rallies. He would be happy to chat with you and give you some pointers. You can always get him on his cell phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX
Regards,
Al Kolvites"
How cool is that?

Kalari
The Kalari is a specially constructed practicing area that comprises a puttara (seven tiered platform) in the south-west corner. The guardian deity is located here, and is worshiped with flowers, incense and water before each practicing session, which is preceded by a prayer. |
I'm down with a "puttara" any day. Riding skills, monkey jumps, and what-knots. The BuddhaPest is is a-faunchin' at the bit to challenge anyone. (warning, the BP does not faunch litely)

I was pretty much writing this off, as I live in the pacific NW and couldn't see getting over to the midwest, but now I think I'm going to make a serious effort to do so. Hell, I might just ride if I have to. (Hello, windshield and throttle lock.)
My dad rides a Chetak too, (He's actually the dealer for Kalispell Montana), and I'll keep him in the loop.

I'm very happy to contribute. I just want to be really sure that I'm not stepping on any toes. So please PM me if you feel like you want to take on any part of this thing.
Dave and I have been in the back yard all afternoon installing the fixed center stand, new speakers, new back rack, and my mega cool new toolbox a'la Paz. Woo hoo! What a great guy. He doesn't even ride...yet.

The Four B's |
|
I smell a parade. (Crown Plaza anyone?) and flags, lots of flags.
Led by precision drill team of 6 bright RED scoots, in a performance that makes old Shriners weep.
Big Al as honorary parade master.
Pix to represent the Goddess Sri Raja Rajeswary as an Utsava Parivara Moortham (moveable, parade Deity). (Link provided below), followed by the rest of us mere mortals.
Get some local art house to show Bollywood flics.
Baja, Bollywood, BBQ, Beer. If that ain't a party I don't know what is.

I LOVE this idea. Even if we found a motel that would let us hang a big white sheet-as-screen and rented/borrowed a digital projector.
Ideas are taking shape...You KC guys, do you have a good local Indian restaurant big enough for a group dinner that has good street parking?

Whoa. There is just no way in hell I could live up to that image.

That's it. Outdoors, one mega-huge SCOOTER DRIVE IN THEATRE. Sweeping vistas, Aishwarya Rai the "8th" wonder of the world, costumes and more costumes, songs, and who could resist such tempting dialog as this?

And in her eyes, a thought grew sweeter and sweeter, deepening like the dawn, a mystical forewarning. |

An all Bajaj rally.
I might just have to make it my first rally too!
Thanks for getting this idea going.

OK. If this happens, I'm mos def coming out from Berkeley. I'll find a way to make it happen. I'm hoping that by Spring we're talking about late Spring...if any of us are going to ride from the West Coast it would be nice to make it over the mountain ranges without the possibility of snow.
I can hardly wait!

OK ...i used to organize the rallies for the Kick Back SC in the 90's the rallies were camp-out affairs and drew around 100+ participants... we called them "Kick Back and Relax".
1997 me in my viet-nam "anti-sunburn" hat
...i swore i would never organize/help/plan another rally. ...but, an all Bajaj Rally? well, i would like to see that happen. i would officialy volunteer my knoledge and services for such an event. i know angry j and monza are overloaded with their tornado rally planning...
it was talked about on another post about doing it in Kansas City. We have good luck with rallies hear in the "heartland" mostly because we are in the middle of the country... I-70 goes coast to coast and right through KC. we have some excellent local brewery's and the best BBQ in the country. if you(we) decide to have a National Bajaj Rally i think Kansas City would be perfect!
no matter what or where... i'll help as much as i can.

If the rally is featuring Bollywood movies for entertainment and Bajaj toasters as swag, I might suggest these mudflaps I saw on 2-Strokebuzz as an addition to the swag bag. Modifiable for the Chetak? Maybe. Inspiration for those looking for some new cowl graphics..mmmmm.

For some reason I keep going to the songs that are being associated or recommended for the rally. The one that goes thru my head is Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" changed to
A Chetak here and a Legend there
Kansas City's the place where
We say hey babe,
Take a ride on the Bajaj-side
Said hey babe, take a ride on the Bajaj-side
and the Four Stokes sing
Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt-Putt
I forgot about Lou's Scooter Ad from the 80's. "Hey, don't settle for walkin'"

Oh, and I don't know WHO was the genius who cooked this phrase up, but can we PLEASE call it "Fists of Curry"??
Razz |
well, I am sure I wasn't the first to turn the phrase, but I had been throwing it around for about the last year and hadn't seen it tun up anywhere else in relation to scooters. Initially I considered it a Inter-club group for those of us with Indian made, Italian designed scoots ( LML, Bajaj, SIL, etc...) I then thought it would be a good t-shirt for those of us with scoots with go-fast parts (I'm a stellaspeed regular). one of my other fledgling ideas was that at rallies Fists of Curry members would donate a pot of really hot curry to the BBQ/potluck/buffet/food offerings. I think under the current incarnation a freakin' hot curry should be offerd at the rally.
Olivene dropped the phrase here regarding our attendance at AmeriVespa.
Anyway I am glad to see it in use and being organized as a rally. Good luck!

Put me down for attending as well, now do I bring the 2T Chetak or the grey-market '02 4T? If you need a DJ (Northern Soul and 60s reggae on original 45s) who comes with his own PA system and disco lights, let me know.
