Post Your Bajaj's name? Reply with quote
I did a quick search and it looks like this hasn't been covered before. Have you give your scooter a nickname?

My black 2003 Bajaj Legend is "The Galactica", because it has a lot in common with the the battlestar of the same name.

1) It has no computer system networking its various systems.
2) They're not building any more of them....
3) The guy commanding it is getting older but is still cool
4) It's heavily armored compared to plastic scoots and has a few scars from close scrapes (like wheeling it through a friend's back gate without being careful)
5) "Frak" apparently is OK to say even in polite company, and certainly when trying to remove a tire from a rim.
6) When I'm leading a group ride locally, I know where I'm going but not how to get there.

When my brother and I do not know what to name something we just name it after the street we bought it on. So he once had hermit crabs name Puente and Oak Knoll and my 2002 red and white Chetak is now Dolores(like dolores park up in SF) but I refer to her more affectionately as "Dee"

My Bajaj's name used to be "SRI SYADASTI SYADAVAKTAVYA SYADASTI SYANNASTI SYADASTI CAVAKTAVYASCA SYADASTI SYANNASTI SYADAVATAVYASCA SYADASTI SYANNASTI SYADAVAKTAVYASCA"
It's the full name of my favorite Erisian Apostle, Sri Syadasti, who's holy day also happens to be my birthday. Cool
His name is in Sanskrit, and it means "All affirmations are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense."

But then the scooter club I was trying out for made me change it to something simpler, akin to one of the fake names you get when you get a customer support person in the Bajaj's home country of India.

So I renamed it "BILL", after forum member Onecyl. It was his idea to change it, so that's what he gets. Twisted Evil

Only women name their scooter. Women, and Buddy owners.

That said, I kinda dig when people give vehicles "titles" such as the aforementioned "The Galactica". For instance, a local chap calls his scooter the "Pretty Yellow Hate Machine" and his truck "The Ranger of Doom". Awesome. Cool

I once dated a girl who called her car the "K-Force". When she got a new one it was called the "K2". And I have another friend who drove some kind of 70's sedan in avocado green as a kid. It was called "El Moco". (the booger)

But no, I still don't name my scooters.

Yet.

Maybe, if I ever get a Buddy.

I won't be getting a Buddy.

Hmm. Well, I guess I won't be answering this question honestly now that a site admin has preemptively dissed, dismissed and emasculated me.

Cheers.

Mine has no name, but if I were to name it after the street I bought it on I'd have to name it Martin Luther King Jr., and that just seems wrong. (and yes, the scooter is black)

No worries ethanol, one of these days we will be able to proudly exclaim that we are indeed real boys.

Haha, Kyle, there's some accidental dark humor for you(no pun intended..or maybe) After that story I would probably have to give it a name like Milky.

thats a great idea! I don't think you could come up wit a better name for hermit crabs!
That means my 06 Chetak's name would be "Western"...not bad.

Wannabee
A friend of mine who rides a harley asked me if it wanted to be like his bike when it grew up. So Wannabee has stuck. Not that I would want it to grow up into a big bike. It is just right the way it is now.

Post My Scooter's got two names. Reply with quote
Firstly, I'd like to say that rugged seamen named their vessels after damsels and old girlfriends. My scooter's not named after women, but after a couple of hoofed animals in the tradition of "Chetak".
My scoot has two nicknames, "Silver" and "Ole Number Seven". Obviously the first one is because it is the color silver and that was also the name of the Lone Ranger's horse (the "Chetak" being the name of a famous horse too). The second name came to me when I relived the intro to my favorite TV show when I was a kid, called "Grizzly Adams" on Youtube. One of Adam's companions in the show was named "Mad Jack the Mountain Man" who had a faithful mule named "Number Seven", thus the new name for my scooter. I've even put a reflective black and silver number 7 on the right cowl and one on my helmet too.

I would have called my Chetak "The Breach" but my wifes Focus was given that name, it make much more sense to yell "Into the breach!" rather than, "Onto the breach?!".

Stupid joke I know.

My Chetak is still nameless.

DAK,
Why don't you name it "Dougy Giro" pronounced DOO-GEE JAI-ROW. Sorry, I just can't get that Toy Dolls song out of my head tonight.

Good name! That's what some people call my Chetak (calling it a wannabe Vespa).

Color can often influence the moniker one might hang on a scoot, and after seeing the pics from the DamN Ride, I now love my white scoot. White/Black strikes a nice balance, has a sorta 'rat' look, and really sticks out of the crowd when around other scooters.

My orange reflective stickers look good but some day they are gonna go. Picture the logo below spinning counter-clockwise from a tire-burning start on the battery side cow heading to the cowl front. Arching up and back from the logo are red, yellow, black flames coming to a point at the rear.

If any artiste wants to mock this up for me, I will apply the paint. Enlightenment and purity are one thing, but flames are power. On the day my scoot gets flames streaming back from the yin yang the Budha Sattva will be born.

that is funny I have a Buell XB and we call the Bajaj the Mule because it carries anything and everything.

So I'm always asked are you going to take the Buell or the mule?

I thought I should pick an Indian name and settled on Ashwin, it means strong horse and seemed very appropriate.

Previous post - Ashwina (skt) - Horse-born, or Son of a Horse. The Ashwini twins are the Indian pantheon's equivalent of Castor and Pollux, the Gemini.

Ashwa (Skt) is cognate with IE Hepkwos - Ekwos (Gk) - Equus (Ln) - Equine - you get the picture.

If you want an Indian name there are some grand old names - that may be hard to say, but cool -

Dadhikraavna - A horse that ran so fast he "sweated curds"
Jishnu - "Victor"

I'm from the South of India, and Paraasari is a historical warhorse =)
